How can I tell what level of encryption my Web browser supports?
If I use Netscape Navigator
128-bit encryption is a necessity to access the BCU LINK site. You will not be allowed to connect without it. Whether or not you have the 128-bit encryption depends on the browser you are using. To check the level of encryption you have setup do the following:
Start Netscape Communicator
Click Help, About Communicator
Communicator should bring up a page stating version of the browser i.e. (Netscape Communicator 4.77)
Look for the section that reads "Contains encryption software from RSA Data Security, Inc".
If the next paragraph says "This version supports U.S. security", that means you have 128-bit security. If it says you have International security, that means you have 40-bit security
If the version is lower than 4.77 chances are you do not have the 128-bit version (unless you have downloaded and installed it previously). From here you can either upgrade to the newer version of Netscape or just download and install the 128-bit encryption. Netscape 4.77 and higher will have 128-bit security already implemented (for lower versions you should choose to download the version containing 128-bit security).
To download a new version of Netscape go to:
http://home.netscape.com/download/
If I use Microsoft Internet Explorer
128-bit encryption is a necessity to access the BCU Link site. You will not be allowed to connect without it. Whether or not you have the 128-bit encryption depends on the browser you are using. To check the level of encryption you have setup do the following:
Start Internet Explorer
Click on Help, About Internet Explorer
The following window should pop-up where you'll see the Version, Cipher Strength (Encryption level) and Service Pack # (if any)
Another way to check your browser for the encryption level is:
When you're in a secure site, a lock symbol appears in the bottom right of the screen, to show that data is being encrypted.
To determine what level of encryption your browser provides, at the top of your browser screen, click on: File, then Properties, then select the Security tab.
From there, scroll down to see Privacy strength.

How do my browser settings affect the display of BCU Link?
Web browsers can be configured differently from computer to computer. For example the display of text and hyperlinked text; the appearance of tables and graphics; and the amount of available 'screen real estate' to view your financial information are all dependent on settings within your Web browser and/or your operating system and hardware.
Where can I get information about problems with my Web browser?
If you are receiving error messages, experiencing technical problems, or having difficulty with your browser settings, there is a wealth of information available on your Web browser's home page. On the Netscape and Internet Explorer home pages there are articles, technical support areas, FAQs, and newsgroup information to help determine the nature of, and solution for, your browser-related problems. Often, you can access on-line help, or you can call a customer service representative in the Technical Support area. The assistance and technical support pages on the browser sites are updated frequently to address new bugs or settings problems.
The text on my screen is difficult to read or doesn't line up.
If you are having trouble reading aspects of our website, it may be because you have selected an unusual font within your Web browser software. We suggest that you change your font to 'Courier New' 12-point to format BCU LINK text for easier viewing. This font will then display on most Web sites you visit, including BCU LINK.
The background colours make viewing my profile difficult.
We recommend that you amend your PC's colour settings to a minimum of 256 colours to produce a clearer display of Web pages. Check your PC operating system's 'Help' function for details on how to set display colour settings.
My browser gives me a warning screen "Certificate Name Check".
If you are using Netscape Navigator you may have this warning box appear. This is known to happen in Netscape Navigator. The solution to this is to just click Continue button or upgrade to a newer version of Netscape or Internet Explorer.
